Observing your children objectively…

A goal of mine as a parent, is to be able to listen to criticism of my child openly.  Too many parents today want to hear all of the good things of their children while quickly defending any negative observations.  I have tried to let any of my children’s teachers know that I am much more interested in hearing the areas my child doesn’t excel in so that I can focus on those.  It is amazing how many times I then here surprise in response.  Too many of our teachers and care givers today are now being expected to only deliver praise, when often times there is an opportunity as a parent to listen, learn and help your child grow.

Recently I have realized in myself, that by listening for areas to help my children, I sometimes get lost in what needs to be fixed, and overlook what already is magnificent.  The exercise I am giving myself for the next couple of weeks is to revel in my children’s greatness.
